Failed first day. Cobra XRS 9955 Voice Alert 15 Band Radar/Laser Detector with 1.5-Inch Full Color Display and Upgradeable Red Light/Speed Features In the past I have had 3 other Cobra Radar Detectors so I was excited to get this one. I installed it in my car in the morning and by noon a bright blue line appeared across the display. The line stays there at all times when the unit is on and wont go away. Before I returned the unit I did some research and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the reviewers of similar Cobra units had screen failures of some kind. I wish I could buy the unit with all of the features without the failing display. Good price for decent performer, but if you can afford it, there are betters. The Cobra XRS-9955 provides very decent K/Ka Detection, definitely notice an improvement from the Cobra 9950 that I owned. During a driving test with my friend, it seemed to performed about the same level (in term of sensibility and number of false reading) as his Beltronics Pro GX65, a detector that costs twice as much as the Cobra. However, we did noticed the XRS-9955 is a bit slow to react and alert to instant-on radar. The Whistler Pro and Valentine One performed noticeably better in this area, but again they cost much more. The Cobra 9955 is a good choice for the money. XRS 9955 So far so good sleak look, very adjustable, plenty of warning time, Hope the screen last longer than the last one Two years screen died.

Great Detector The Beltronics GX65 is the best radar detector that I have ever owned. I have had many over the years including the Valentine V1. Although this is a good detector, the GX65 gives me more warning on the signals that matter as well as not having to worry about listening to it go off for the wrong reason (You tell it what you want to not listen to). The other thing that is great about this detector is the pre-warning it gives when you are approaching a red-light camera. It tells you exactly where these are before it is too late. Very well built, you can immediately tell you are not buying a product that skimps on material. The GX65 also comes with a very well written owners manual that is easy to understand. Recommend very highly!! Great look, Great detection, GPS! I've driven with the GX65 for several months now and it is without a doubt my favorite dectector and I've owned many! The GPS feature allows me to lock out annoying false alerts, plus the built-in database is preloaded with all the red light and speed camera locations popping up everywhere. These annoying camera locations alert in plenty of time to check things out in advance. $29.95 extra for the 3 year update subscription, which I haven't purchased as yet. Once I've marked all the false alerts on my drive to work, the GX65 is quiet and alerts to just true police radar. I've never driven with such a quiet detector. The unit comes with a very nice case and "Smart" power cord that works like a miniture control panel right on the dash. Highly reccommended! Two Sides to This Review First the detector - I recently bought from another retailer (see 'second' point below). It is tremendous. Great functionality, options, design, gives good warning, the GPS tells you your speed when an alert goes off (so you only have to look at the detector to know what you're dealing with and how fast you're going). I primarily bought for the red light camera detection, but it turns out there are none in my area (when I traveled out of state, I found quite a bit), but if you don't have many of the red light cameras in your area, you may want to save a few bucks and get the RX65 (also from Bell). It will save you a couple hundred bucks and (except for the GPS), it's the same detector. Second - I was looking to buy this detector and it was $469 everywhere. About 2-3 months ago, Amazon changed the price to $429 but said they didn't have any in stock so they'd ship later. I put it in my cart. The price then dropped another $5 over the next few days, but I got caught up and didn't finish the order. I went in a few days later and it was over $470. I wrote customer service who told me what the policy was but never answered the question about how something that's not in stock can have a price change almost daily. Anyway, I didn't order it. A few weeks later they moved the price to $425, so I ordered it. A week or two after that, they said that they wouldn't be able to get it and they cancelled my order and took it down off the site for about 2 or 3 weeks. Now I see it's back. It makes me wonder why my order was cancelled a few short weeks ago. If you want my 2 cents, it's selling for the same price on the Beltronics site (also with free shipping). Pick it up there and order a couple of accessories (visor clip, extra suction cups for another car, a USB plug which you'll need to update the database, etc.) You'll get more stuff (that you need anyway) bundled in with your free shipping.

Cobra XRS-9630 12-Band Radar/Laser Detector

Cobra 12 Band High Performance Digital Radar/Laser Detector with Digiview, 8 Point Electronic Compass and POP Mode Detection
Amazon Sales Rank: #29483 in Consumer Electronics Color: Black/Silver Brand: Cobra Model: XRS 9630 Dimensions: 1.00" h x 3.00" w x 4.00" l, 1.00 pounds
Whether you commute to work or school on the freeway, drive for a living, or just like to go on an occasional recreational trip, the Cobra XRS-9630 Radar/Laser Detector is an invaluable addition to your motor vehicle. Designed for the convenience of 24-hour use, the XRS-9630 has a bright, easy-to-read DigiView data display that can be dimmed for nighttime driving. Measuring 4.89 x 3.01 x 1.44 inches and weighing just 6.38 ounces, the XRS-9630 can be set just about anywhere within easy view when you're driving, and then stored in your glove compartment when you're parked. The XRS-9630 detects six different radar signals, including the Ku wavelength band that is widely used in Europe and that has been recently approved for use in the United States. In addition, the XRS-9630 is completely invisible to the VG-2 and Spectre radar detector detectors while it alerts you if either the VG-2 or the Spectre is in use in your area. The XRS-9630 is also sensitive to four different laser signals, and with its LaserEye feature giving you a 360-degree detection range, you'll always be able to tell if you're driving through a surveillance area. And perhaps most importantly, for your own safety and the safety of other drivers sharing the road with you, the XRS-9630 detects two emergency alert systems to give you advance warning of road hazards, keeping you prepared when emergency vehicles are nearby. In addition to detecting the Safety alert system, the XRS-9630, like most of Cobra's Radar/Laser detectors, offers Cobra's exclusive feature of detecting the presence of the Strobe alert system, which emergency crews use to control traffic signals. Other features include a power-saving automatic shutdown when you turn your ignition off and an easy-to-program menu. So get the Cobra XRS-9630 Radar/Laser Detector for your car or truck, and you'll be prepared for just about anything when you're behind the wheel. Note: Radar detectors can be used without restriction in well over 40 states, but restrictions apply in a few states. Please check with your state department of motor vehicles or highway patrol if you have questions about whether there are restrictions in your area. What's in the Box XRS 9630 radar/laser detector, windshield bracket, coiled power cord, hook and loop fasteners, and owner's manual.
Definitely worth it The only downside to this radar detector is to set the compass. You will need a retail store parking lot (empty) to drive in circles (3 times) to set the compass. After that the radar detector is such a beauty. It will detect all the bands specified in the description, I know it for a fact. It will detect a speed radars about a mile and a half away in any direction. In open highway it will go as far as 2 1/2 miles. This product has definitly saved me from several tickets. Works great on all bands - already saved me a dozen times I highly recommend this unit. For the price you get full 360 detection in all bands. The range is amazing. The best thing about this unit is its detection of KA, KU, bands on the oncoming traffic from staters and county sherrifs. You get one bar of signal and slow down and then it gets stronger for a while before you even see the cop. Absolutely pays for itself in the first week if you have a long commute. also picks up the POP signal from the moto cops and saves you by a good 15 seconds before you even see them. Don't waste your money on the fancier units with advanced displays and voice responses, totally not needed and most sacrifice the laser detection to give you the bells and whistles. This is the maximum functional unit for the money w/o any extra junk that you don't need. 4 out of 5 just because it is a window mount unit, not a under hood unit with extra sensors. Also only had it about a month so the longevity is yet to be tested. Another couple of months and this thing is a 5. 2 years after purchase... This product is simply amazing as long as you are aware. I have had it detect KA band from 2 miles away, from the other side of the hill. It does give a lot of false positive, especially the X, K, and SPECTRE bands. I'd recommend turning X off in general. The false positives are usually things like radar controlled bill boards(like those lotto ad's that show the current jackpot), automatic doors, and some electronic traffic signs will set this off. But if you pay attention, and think about where cops like to hide, you won't ever get pulled over. I went from 5 tickets in 1 year, to none in 2 years now. Definately worth the money!

Whistler SL500 Radar Detector

Good enough... I got it looking for basic radar functions (detection) at an afordable price. I am the kind of person that does not care if it speaks or beeps. The device is good but the mounting system just broke after a couple of months (I had to fix it with some glue). The radar works well.

Great Performance at a Great Price I highly recommend this product. It has saved me countless times from my own heavy foot. I really never intend to break the law, just don't always agree with the posted limit. Here in New Mexico, the cities are so far apart. It's crazy that it takes hours to get from one corner to the next. This detector even lets you know when you are coming into a photo enforced light. For the price - It's amazing! A Decent Laser/Radar Detector THe Cobra XRS 9640 has all the features you need for about $200 less, Ku band detection , POP gun detect, some higher end radars dont have this, making this a very good value for the money , plus it detects all the other radar and laser bands, in stores this goes for about $190, but you can get it for less on Amazon , so if you are looking for a under $ 200 radar this will fit the bill . Also the VG-2 and Spectre anti-radar-detector-detector feature is in this, VERY GOOD FEATURES The Cobra 9640 I received a different type of Cobra radar dector as a christmas gift. After learn more about pop radar guns. I knew I need an up grade unit. My main thing I was looking for was that it had lazer and pop. This unit has both and a whole lot more. I read the reviews and I was sold. The price was a big savings. Thanks so much for offering me such a great deal. Rodney Crosby Cypress,Texas

Rocky Mountain Radar DLS-315 Radar/laser Detector and Laser Scrambler
From Rocky Mountain Radar

Kat Radar/Laser Detector.Detects radar (X, K, POP, and superwide Ka); detects and scrambles all laser radar.Smart-scan to reduce false starts
Amazon Sales Rank: #14101 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Rocky Mountain Radar Model: DLS315 Dimensions: 3.00" h x 2.00" w x 4.00" l, 2.00 pounds
The RMR-DLS315 is a completely integrated radar/laser detector which responds not only to all the radar guns in use today, including "Stalker," but also to the other latest development in speed monitoring devices--the laser gun. This unit scrambles all police laser speed measurement devices and operates automatically. A completely integrated radar/laser detector with laser scrambling. Click to enlarge. Includes coiled vehicle power cord. Bracket for windshield mounting included. Wide Detection This model provides distinct visual and audible alerts to warn you of the presence of X, K, and all kinds of Ka Band radar guns in the front and rear of you. It also provides 360 degree laser detection with adaptive laser tracking (ALT) for better laser performance. VG-2 and VG-3 Immunity VG-2 and VG-3 are devices police use to detect radar detectors. This model provides the benefit of 'undetectability' by alerting you to the presence of VG-2 and VG-3 signals. Advanced Micro-Scan Scans the radar bands 2-4 times faster than as any other detector. This allows Rocky Mountain devices to pick up the new P.O.P. radar that no one else can. Smart-Scan When Rocky Mountain devices detect radar in one scan, they repeat that scan, instead of completing programmed scans and returning. This means they detect quicker with less false alarms than any other detector. Integrated Laser Scrambler Disables Police LIDAR Lidar sends out laser pulses and measures how long it takes to hit your car and come back. From the speed of light it can determine your range. It sends out several more pulses and calculates your speed from the change in distance over time. The RMR-DLS315 transmits pulses electronically timed at 100 feet apart. This only allows the Lidar to see up to 100 feet so it is unable to calculate your speed. Safety Alert and Safety Warning System The RMR-DLS315 unit incorporates the Safety Alerts (SA) and Safety Warning Systems (SWS) detection. This safety feature warns you of the presence of potential road hazards by detecting signals from safety transmitting devices. What's in the Box RMR-DLS315, Windshield Bracket with Suction Cups, Hook and Loop Fastener Tape, Power Cord, Spare Fuse, User Manual
Affordable Radar Detector I got this for Christmas last year. My wife ordered it from Overstock and installed it as soon as I opened it on Christmas. For the first couple of days while driving around it wouldn't go off. I thought it was defective until I came within a mile of a speed trap. Then it went off like crazy. The only thing I don't like about it is the range. It says 1 mile or longer but not quite that far. Decent starter detector Purchased this detector because the price was great. It appears to be a good starter detector. If you have the money would purchase detector that costs a little more. Haven't been by many police, but has alerted me to some and not to others... Overall, appears to be a decent detector, except the range could be better. Not sure if the range is even a mile. High quality - low price You can't go wrong with this radar detector for the price. I used to see patrol vehicles ahead of time, but never knew if they were running radar. Now I can often "see" them before I actually spot them. It has saved me in a school zone when I didn't even realize I had entered the school zone(I was doing 30 in a 20), so I can honestly say it has paid for itself.

Whistler PRO-78 Laser-Radar Detector with Real Voice Alerts, POP Mode Detection, INTELLICORD ready
From Whistler

Pro-Series Radar/Laser Detector with Voice Alert
Brand: Whistler Radar Model: PRO-78 Dimensions: 2.25" h x 7.75" w x 6.25" l, .85 pounds

Does the job When the Laser Alert "goes off," have your Nitroglycerin pills available. The instructions say that no matter what the volume or other settings are set to, the Laser Alert will go off at maximum volume. It's loud. The blue LEDs are visible in darkness and in sunlight, except if you're wearing Blue-Blocker sunglasses. The yellow tint of the glasses totally obliterates the blue display, even if turned up to full brightness. Therefore, I'm in the process of learning how to recognize the different alarms by audio. There are a couple of extra, bright, decorative [blue] LEDs on top of the unit that can be set to either stay on solidly, or blink only when there's any type warning. They don't convey any useful information, but they might be turned on in case of mobile fiesta. The assorted dim settings don't affect these two LEDs, so if they're active, they're at full brightness. But they can be turned completely off, such as after the party ends. The Dark setting is not totally dark. The design strategy is that in the Dark mode, the display will go totally dark during an alert, and stay dark for an extra 20 seconds. I find that doesn't completely address the concern of not offending policemen for having a detector in my car. At night, I believe a policeman (or other cars) passing will see the dim blue LEDs on top of the dashboard. I'm concerned that if a policeman sees the detector, he won't give me the benefit of a few mphs that I might have had if I didn't have the detector. And I'm not interested in non-policemen seeing that I have a detector, either. There is also a Dim mode for nighttime driving -- brighter than Dark, and stays lit regardless of alert. There are at least three different settings for the X-band sensitivity. I have the sensitivity mildly reduced, and have few false alerts while driving in town, and I'm learning where they are after a while so as not to cause concern. If you're sure there are no X-band radar guns on your trail, the X-band can be completely disabled. Sorry I can't address the question of sensitivity -- how much time the detector gives you to hit the breaks before the smokey's radar gun measures your speed, but reviews on the internet say the price-to-performance ratio of the Whistler is almost as good as detectors over twice the price. http://www.laserveil.com/whistler/pro-78/xtr-690/ I have yet to see a message, such as, "Construction Ahead" scrolling across my Pro-78's display. I'm pretty sure this detector can do that. A female voice announces the type of radar alert, followed by beeps that get faster as the signal gets closer, and the visual display reads signal strength from one to nine, to help determine whether they're getting closer or not. At "Nine," the beeping goes "Shave And A HairCut Shave And A HairCut..." I've recently taken to using the AutoQuiet mode, where the alarm partially drops in volume a few seconds after it goes off. That's a good thing. I've been meaning to get some replacement suction cups for the windshield mount. They're small, and I assume their lifetime is limited. Whistler sells replacements for some exorbitant price, but I think the Crafts department of Walmart can help. I usually put the detector under the passenger's seat when I'm done, and the last time both suction cups fell off, so I found when I went to go retrieve it. That never happened before. I'm thinking the plastic is starting to shrink. I'm thinking of making a log of alerts for my semi-weekly 4-hour trip, to help me remember where the "false" alerts always go off, and to help me realize if an unexpected alert occurs. Most of the alerts are from temporary traffic signs (the ones with big orange chassis and light-bulb lettering), some of which continue to emit microwaves, even if they're dark with their signage turned off. I found one with a laser, which I assumed was there just to rattle my teeth -- I don't think it has a camera or anything. At least, no one has contacted me. After going past it a few times, I don't worry about it anymore, or any signs, except to minimize collisions with fellow vehicles. It's important to remember that construction workers never have a nice day, but sometimes those signs are out for months on end with no workers anywhere, and state unreasonable limits for the conditions. At least, first check for humans before going too far over a Construction Zone limit. Finally, I recommend my approach: Use the detector to help learn about enforcement activities, not to evade them. And when you're hit with a radar gun, you'll be proud that you weren't driving in a dangerous manner and that you didn't have to hit the breaks or anything which would have demonstrated you have a guilty conscience. Great price -- Great range -- Great value The Pro-78 has some very nice features. I had another Whistler model for over 6 years and this is a great replacement. It has very long range radar detection - I often can't yet see the source when it alerts. It may be a mile down the road. The auto-dim feature is very nice -- my old one required me to press a button to dim the display. I find the blue display much less harsh than my old amber display. And the extra 2 LEDs on the top really get your attention. And I found the best price at an Amazon store. Powerful detector for a great price This is the 3rd detector I've purchased and certainly the best. My first detector was purchased in 1999 and was also a Whistler. It worked great and had been dependable, always alerting me with plenty of time to insure I was going at a proper speed by the time I came within range of a police radar gun. However, I noticed that it stopped doing alerts on the interstates. I believe that is because I don't think it could detect super wide band KA and the state police have switched to guns using that technology, so it was time for a new one. I happened to see a cheap (chinese made) import at a very low price on one of the deal a day sites and so made an impulse purchase after confirming it could detect super wide band KA. I should have done my homework as when I began using this unit I found that its range was so limited that by the time it alerts you are already in range of the radar gun. My estimate was that this cheap unit had only about half the range of my 10 year old unit. This unit was a waste of money no matter how cheap it was, so it was back to shopping for a new detector. This time around I took my time to read the reviews of many detectors at several web sites. After reading these reviews it soon became obvious that the Pro-78 was a near universal choice for the best detector for the money, with a performance that almost equaled detectors costing 2 or 3 times as much as it. My own personal experience is that this unit has almost double the range as my 10 year old unit. In fact this power almost caused me a problem right after I started using it. I live in a rural area and commute about 40 miles into work. I was heading into work one morning and was traveling on a lightly used local road a few miles from house when I got a KA alert that only lasted a few seconds. I have been commuting down this road for 10 years and know that there shouldn't be any alerts so I slowed down to the speed limit and started looking for a cruiser. I went about three quarters of a mile and didn't see anything and so thought it was just a false alarm and was just starting to accelerate to the normal speed locals go down this road at (about 10 or so mph over the limit) when suddenly the detector went off again and when I looked up the road I saw a cop on foot hiding in the bushes with a hand held pulse unit. He was about 1000 feet away so I was definitely in his accurate reading zone. I guess the Pro-78 had picked up the first alarm when he lit up the radar on some other car when I was still 3/4 of a mile away (and around a bend or two). It had picked it up so far away that I had almost given up on the alert! Given how sensitive this unit is, one can pick up radar controlled door openers from quite some distance away. Fortunately most of these are on the X band which isn't used by the police much any longer. I disabled the unit from alerting to X band and so 90% of the false alarms are gone and I know where the other (K band) door openers are on my normal commuting route. If necessary there are some filter options which can further reduce false alarms if necessary but I haven't found them necessary. I've been using this unit for 2 weeks now and have had it fire alerts on both local roads and on the interstate and am confident that this unit can provide me with plenty of warning time before I get into a radar gun's "kill" zone. So to sum up this is a great radar detector for the price and is definitely worth your consideration unless you want to spend enough money to buy a top of the line Bell, Escort or Valentine unit.

Bel STi-R Concealed Radar Detector
From Beltronics

The Bel STi-R radar detector brings the complete immunity to "radar detector detectors" (RDDs) and the features of the STi Driver to an installed model. This finally allows for a truly undetectable, stealth detector.
Amazon Sales Rank: #14631 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Beltronics STi-R Concealed Radar Detector Model: STI REMOTE Dimensions: 5.00 pounds

An amazing detector, at the current closeout prices it's a bargain The Sti-R is a remarkable detector. I have a Valentine One also, and the Sti-R alerts before my Valentine One on most occassions, on both K-Band and the Ka-bands. I still love my V1, and will never sell it, but at the current closeout prices the Sti-R was too hard to resist. In truth, both detectors provide more than enough warning, but the STi-R is clearly a little more sensitve than the V1. The fact there's no worries about someone stealing the Sti-R, and there's no detector hanging off the windshield are big pluses. The addtitional features on the Sti-R compared to the V1 make it function more like a modern detector, and there are some features (segmenting of Ka band for example) that are not available on any other detector. While the Escort 9500ci obviously has more features, including GPS capability, in my opinion the STi-R is the most advanced detector ever made in terms of pure radar detection capability. Get one while they're still available. Update: While both the Valentine and the STi-R continue to give plenty of warning, the Sti-R really shines in off-axis detection. This is the one area where the Sti-R has a clear, and meaningful, advantage over the Valentine. I love both detectors, but the Sti-R is proving to be very impressive. Bel STi Remote - High Hopes, but Disappointing Performance I have to say that I was very excited when the Bel STi Remote unit was released. I tamed my enthusiasm to some extent however and decided to wait until the 2nd wave of STi Remote units hit the streets. Rumors had circulated on some forums about some "bug fixes" of various sorts, so I waited another couple of months. Finally, I ordered a unit and I could not wait for it to arrive. Since I often drive through the only state in the U.S. which bans detectors (i.e. Virginia), I was psyched about being able to use a radar detector there without (hopefully) getting hassled. Well, I've now been using the Bel STi for about a year, and I have to say that overall I've been very disappointed. I previously have owned a Valentine One for about 10 years now. When I got the Bel STi Remote unit, I decided to leave my V1 installed and compare performance of the two for a month or two before ditching the V1 (or so I thought). As it turns out, I still have them both installed. I just cannot fathom giving up my V1, and in retrospect I wish that I had not spent $1,100 to buy the STi Remote. It is IMHO, not worth the cost. So, here's the nitty gritty... the good, the bad, and the ugly: The Good - Undetectable, even by the Spectre IV radar detector detector - Can be installed concealed behind bumper (as I did) - External speaker with adjustable volume control - Switches are small and unobtrusive - Good X and K band filtering (false signals) in city modes The Bad - Slow on the uptake of Ka signals. On average it is 1-2 seconds behind my V1 (could be due to mounting location... I think that is the most likely cause, however... read on) - Lots of wiring / tedious install. Not really a complaint, but just pointing this out. It is a remote mount though, so what do you expect? The Ugly - Last week I had a Ka encounter which my V1 alerted to over 1 mile away. The STi Remote did not alert AT ALL until my V1 was at nearly full alert strength and I was about 1/4 mile from the patrol car (i.e. within range of his/her radar unit). - I've had one or two other instances when it completely missed a distant instant-on Ka signal picked up by the V1. Now, the STi Remote is not a bad detector per se. In fact, I would say that it is quite good. However, I don't think it's a good detector to have installed remotely (as it is supposedly intended). Come to think of it, perhaps Mike Valentine is right when he always says you shouldn't do that anyway. My experience with both the V1 and Bel STi Remote seems to bear out that argument. I think if you must go with a concealed and undetectable detector, then it's not a bad choice. However, you should be prepared for some disappointment and possibly a ticket or two in spite of using it. Personally, I recommend to my friends that if they want an STi that they purchase an STi-Driver model instead. It is less than half the price and I suspect a better performer.

Cobra XRS-9700 11-Band Radar/Laser Detector with Intellishield and Voice Alert
From Cobra

COBRA XRS-9700 11 BAND LASER RADAR DETECTOR
Brand: Cobra Model: XRS-9700 Dimensions: 8.00" h x 4.00" w x 11.00" l, 4.00 pounds

Not the greatest dectector out there. For the top of the line Cobra Model, I was definitely disappointed with the 9700. It's Compass comes in handy and the intellimute works well to kill off unwanted beeps and voice alerts from garage openers and car keys. However, as a radar detector, it is only mediocre at best. Unlike other reviews, my experience with this device has been somewhat positive. It DOES pick up signals but perhaps too late. POP (instant on radar) alerts are picked up only when your car gets hit by one, and by that time your speed has already been clocked so what's the point? Normal, always on radar such as K and X bands get picked up AT MOST 1/2 mile away. Most of the time though it ends up being 1/4 mile maybe less. It has saved me a couple times but I wouldn't buy this device again if i had the chance. Dont buy it Please dont buy it. I bought this one around a year ago. I live in upstate NY and unlike the metro cities cops and state trooper are rampant in my area. Now, this thing is suppose to detect cops earlier, right? wrong! it would beep 'occassionaly' and only when i can practically see the state trooper myself! so whats the point? actually there is no point (of buying it). Funny thing is now i drive at the speed limit (with the radar detector on). I am looking for a new radar detector now. Best radar dectector we've owned Purchased this item for my husband and I must tell you, very good investment for the money. Product easy to install, easy to program as it has direction on it (N, S, W, E). Very easy to understand, clear voice alerts and special alerts for different kinds of bands.

Perefect in all generalities Bought this item after looking over many other different detectors. And decided on this one. Had a little trouble with hard hard wiring it to the under the hood fuse box but figured it out after a little tweaking. After that had no problems. Product had me extremely satisfied with its performance. Very sensitive when its needed to be, granted not many if any false alarms. And the programing the product allows just adds to another great aspect to this radar detector. Great price, great buy... Great radar for the money! I got this radar detector after doing research on them for a few days. It was the best value out there for a radar that picks up so many different bands of radar. Thing thing has already saved me a few times from Sergeant D-bag. If you are looking for a good radar, then pick this bad boy up. Note: Automatic doors may set off your radar. I get false alerts on city mode maybe 2 to 3 times a day in extremely busy areas with lots of stores that have automatic doors. Cobra xrs The cord was bad and kept blowing fuses. I had to pay $18 to replace the cord at best buy so I could use it. I should have send it back. The item works good now that the cord was replaced.

Radar Detector Car Dash and Windshield Mount

Directly from our "car mount labs" comes the best radar detector car mount on the market. This is especially usefuly for states like California where windshield mount are illegal! Why do we think this is the best? Firstly, we have combined our heavy duty suction mount system with a mounting plate. The suction is rated to hold 20 pounds. We use this suction system to hold devices such as GPS, satellite radios, PDAs and iPods (check our store if you need accessories for these devices). Once it is attached to your windshield, it isn't coming down unless you want it to by pressing on the suction release. Secondly, the angle of the mounting plate can be adjusted up and down. Your device attaches to the mounting plate with a heavy duty velcro strip which we provide. It really looks great as you can see in the pictures. The cops will envy you when they see your car with this mount in the parking lot (ok, maybe not). Thirdly, and this is the best part, we include a dash plate with double sided tape so that the suction can adhere to your dash. We'll bet you can't do that with the mount the manufacturer included in the box!

A must for CA Residents In California, it is illegal to have anything mounted to your windshield. GPS, Radar Detectors, etc. If an Officer feels inclined to, he can actually pull you over and ticket you for a windshield mounted device. I have an Escort Passport 9500ix. I was using the windshield mount it came with. However, I noticed that it was rubbing up against my windshield when I drove and (I'm sure) in part to the dual 12's in the back. It was evident that continual use of the supplied windshield mount would eventually lead to a damaged windshield. This dash mount is working great. It holds my radar detector perfectly still away from the windshield, while obeying one of CA's many ridiculous laws. Plus, it elevates the radar detector to the perfect spot in order to detect laser without jeopardizing radar detection. Much better! I have a Passport 9500 radar detector. The windshield mount that comes with the unit is small and flimsy...keeps falling off the windshield. I purchased this radar detector mount, and use it on my dashboard. It came with everything needed to install. It is great! Not only do I need not worry about the detector falling off the windshield anymore, the use of the mounting plate lets me remove the detector easily when I need to (for example, parking in parking lots, out in the hot sun, or on short car trips). Besides the dash mount, you always have the option to use this mount on the windshield. Windshield mounting with this mount would certainly be better than the factory supplied mount, as it has a much bigger and deeper "cup" so it would probably hold better to the glass. Don't forget to clean the sticky surface... I used this item to mount my radar detector onto my windshield, since I didn't want to risk ruining my dash surface at all. The item itself is pretty sturdy. However, since I forgot to wipe the mounting plate with the alcohol wipe (provided) before attaching the Velcro piece and not waiting long enough (the whole 24 hrs or more) before using it, the Velcro already started rubbing off the plate, causing my radar to turn partly sideways. Simply put, it lost its grip (of the radar). On the other hand, the suction on the glass is outstanding! You sure don't have to worry about it falling off the windshield. So I ended having to remove the Velcro and as much of the adhesive goo off the plate (with steam from a boiling pot) as I could, cleaned it real good with alcohol, reattached a new Velcro piece, and waited more than a day before using it again. The hold still doesn't seem that perfect; within days my radar was already slowly starting to turn sideways again. It'd be great if only the Velcro were as strong as the suction cup is on the glass. If you do it right the first time, maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

The best ever! Bel-Tronics Radar Detector For Vehicle-975R I bought the Bel-Tronics Radar Detector For Vehicles, Model 975R.I am delighted with this radar detector. As you can see from the photo this units does not mount on the dashboard. It it installed under the hood and also at the rear of the car under the bumper. It is very sensitive and powerful. I have avoided several tickets so far thanks to its design and power. One trooper pulled me over and told me that he knew I was speeding but by the time his radar locked on at just under one mile that I was three miles below the posted speed limit. I had been 33 miles an hour over the speed limit when the Bel-Tronics Radar Detector For Vehicle (975R) warned me with plenty of time to slooooowwwww down. I could tell the trooper was upset. He kept looking around the inside of my car for a dash radar detector but couldn't see one since there wasn't one! It is under the hood and the rear bumper. This device has already paid for itself! I highly recommend. (I would recommend Good Guys vs. CC) BEWARE! Beltronics will not honor it's warranty I own a different model of Beltronics radar detector (the Express 925) which I have had for less than a month. It developed a porblem with the display, so I called Beltronics so that I could get it repaired. Surprise! Surprise! The lady there told me they will not honor the warranty of any Beltronics radar detector not sold by an "authorized reseller" and she told me that Amazon is NOT an authorized reseller. So if you buy your radar detector from Amazon or other non authorized dealers, they will not honor the warranty if you have a problem. Check Beltronics web site to verify this!

One of the best for the money!!! Having shopped for a detector for a while, I finally settled on this one. I have had it for a few months, I live in New York and waited until I got back from a road trip to Florida to review this detector... On the road trip, it picked up every cop that was staked out. Every single one. I had zero tickets. In Maryland, the troopers were using laser. I was going through at 2AM, doing about 85...The detector let me know about 7 seperate laser attempts. Every time, I slowed down right away and was fine. There were some times when I couldn't even see the officer responsible! In other states, the radar KA band let me know about all of the troopers around well in advance. I did turn it off for DC and VA in accordance with their laws. The strobe and safety alerts worked well in Florida, when there was an accident, and later when an ambulance was behind me and needed to get through. VG-2 alerts also work well, as I was radar detector detected several times throughout the trip. I know that most detectors are terrible for laser protection, but this one seems superior to others. Granted, the officer usually has your speed recorded by the time the laser detector goes off, but the detector seemed to work time and again for laser for me! The range of radar detection, especially for KA band, is pretty far. In a straight stretch I have picked up signals from almost half a mile back! The only potentially annoying thing about this detector is the X band detection, which goes off any time I am around a building security system (banks, car dealerships, etc) or automatic doors at like a supermarket or CVS or something. This can be turned off, however!! ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: A radar detector is only as good as how you have it mounted!! My friend has the same detector and he absolutely hates it, says it never picks anything up. I saw how it was mounted, he has it on the dash, below the wipers...a radar detector is a line-of-sight device, people! It has to be able to see all around your vehicle in order for it to be of any use to you! So long as you have it mounted sell, clear of obstructions, I don't think you can get any better protection! Lovin' it This little device has saved my butt on several occassions now. It has paid for itself at least twice now.

It Works! But the design? This is definately not a pretty radar detector. In the days of Apple design, and GPS's looking great and slim, LCD televisions, and kitchen appliances looking and functioning great; there's not a lot of excuse for poor industrial design. More on the construction in a moment. October 10, 2009 update. The Emergency Vehicle alarm finally went off. Another that made me almost jump out of my skin, the noise is a lot like a police siren. A police car was pulling somebody over with siren going. Well before I could hear the siren, the alarm went off on the screen. I had already seen the lights before the alarm went off. If a police car is equiped with a special transmitter, the Cobra will go off. September 26, 2009 update. Laser detector finally went off. About made me jump out of my skin. The sound is kind of Star Wars, crazy buzzy sound. The goofiest icon come up, its an image of a gun with a laser sight on it. But the good news - it works. Definately works just fine. I've also had some fun with this unit, the Chicago area has a ton of construction with threatened photo radar speed enforcement. The amazing thing, if they ever turn on those radar guns that are out there right now, Chicago will make a ton of money. This unit warns for those guns a long ways in advance, and it beeps like insanity whenever I am on top of one. This thing really works. June 2, 2009 Tech Support update. Well this is not the fastest company I have ever met. Web support via the web form is pitiful at best. Twice I entered the exact same information and never got a response over a 1 week time period. I finally used an email address (it's buried in an advertisement looking thing on the FAQ's) and got a response within two hours of their normal business hours. And I got a nasty gram from somebody telling me to relax, tech support would get back to me (after over 7 work days, I lost all hope), they did receive all three of my emails. Frankly, a really poor showing on their part. God help you if you need tech support from this company. The FAQ section for the radar detectors is just awful. Pretty well worthless. Bottom line - There are no 64 bit drivers, they promise them in 1 to 2 months. So you are stuck using XP or Vista 32 bit (the limit of my testing). They did manage to straighten out my issue with the lifetime subscription to GPS updates. Back to Original Review: The really great news, this radar detector flat out works. It works well. I'm amazed at how well it works. Photo, Ka, X, and Caution Zones - saw them all, they all work just great thank you very much. Haven't seen a laser alert, emergency vehicles, or a Railroad crossing alert yet; but I'd have every reason to believe those will work when they are really there. The good - 1/2 mile down the road, Ka chirped on, the lovely lady said Ka Alert, and two balls of signal strength. Sure enough, a 1/2 mile later down the raod, a policeman with radar pulled somebody over. Pretty darn good proof the unit can detect radar. Unboxing - I've posted some pictures of unboxing. It's actually some pretty decent packaging and got my heart rate up just a bit. You see, I used to be addicted to radar detectors. And then Laser came along, and I lost interest, (I'd already been through X band, then get a new one that would do Ka, enough already). Well that whole world has settled down now. What is in the box? This funky looking radar detector with a big honking screen on the back end of it. And this really hideous half arm, half wart hanging off the side of the body; the GPS receiver. A coiled power cord. A goofy looking female mini-USB to male USB cable. A really crummy cheap window suction cup mount. A chunk of velcro. And an instruction book bag. The installation. Ouch. The first step, you have to register the GPS and update the database. If you use the wrong model number to register the GPS you'll be ripped off your lifetime Aura database updates. Make sure you use the XRS 9960G model number - not the number on the radar detector. And you have to input the serial number off the little dinky GPS receiver. Once registered, you then have to download and install a little piece of software that will live on your computer forever - it's called RDA GPSL-55 (you got me how they came up with that gorgeous name). Then you are supposed to plug in the USB cable and the GPS receiver. Now if you have Vista, the website says you are on your own. With XP they give you step by step instructions. Well, the best deal, if you have Vista or XP 64 Bit - don't even bother. The software / driver will not work at all, nothing, nada. So you have to find a 32 bit machine to do this update. My Aspire One netbook did the job. Then you have to remove the GPS when you start up the RDA GPSL-55 software, and you have to enter the GPS serial number. Once all that craziness is done, you might get lucky and the GPS will update with it's brand spanking new database. Mine finally did after three tries. So software set up - just not cool at all. Forget 64 Bit operating systems. And forget about any kind of real live software support on the Cobra website; it just doesn't exist at all. So now that the little reciever is updated, I installed this in the car. Cobra needs to take a lesson from Garmin, or the GPS industry, about car mounts for devices. They shipped the cheapest piece of garbage to hang this on your windshield. The metal is nothing to bend. The suction cups are exactly that, suction cups that are very hard to push on or remove. So, bottom line this thing looks like garbage hanging from the windshield. The power cord is way too short. I had to stretch is a long ways to work in my Buick Rendezvous (I know a radar magnet) - if those suction cups ever let go, this unit is flying to the back of the bus quickly. The Mercedes was a little better. There's one other critical design flaw. The socket for the GPS receiver is a standard mini-USB connector; cheap and not exactly super secure. Definately not an automotive type connection. The power socket is right beside that GPS socket. The GPS almost covers up the power socket, and when you stretch the power cord, it stresses the GPS connection. First time around, the GPS wasn't seated right because the power cord pulled it out. Now the good stuff. Power this up, and you are greeted by one of the nicest female voices I've heard on an electronic device in a long time. And then you get to look at the display. Well Cobra could have spent maybe five more dollars on this display. It is super low res, the icons are really goofy looking and super clunky. For some unknown reason, they love how much electricity the unit is getting, there's this huge battery in the default display that tells you 14.7V, or whatever is going in. I would haver rather seen the speed displayed. Customization through the menus is not super intuitive, there's only 4 buttons to work with. They don't always do exactly what I thought they should, a minor annoyance. Now on to the testing. About 1/4 mile from a camera monitored intersection, the displayed turned to a camera with a green donut, and the Cobra lady said Photo Alert. A bit closer, and an arrow appeared at the top. Closer and the donut got larger and yellow. Closer still, the donut turned red, by that time I was pretty much at the edge of the intersection. This was pretty cool. Worked every single time. I found a policeman staked out on a road, doubled back and got the Ka alert mentioned at the top of the review. Given the two level signal strength, it wasn't a false alarm. And the fact that he pulled somebody over, well it was real. The Caution zones is kind of interesting. It's apparently areas where a lot of accidents have been reported. Sure enough, Caution came on with an exclamation point in the middle of the donut, and Cobra lady told me Caution Alert. The color change was exactly like the Camera alert. The two that came up were in front of a school at a very busy intersection. And the second was in front of a hospital. False alarms. It did a pretty darn good job rejecting them. O'Hare airport is notorious for heavy duty false alarms everywhere. I got X and Kz alarms, but all were only one ball signal strength. The other great thing this unit does, once the alarm is set, you get the voice plus a tone. Then you get tone. And if the signal doesn't get stronger, the tone gets quieter; but the X or Ka radar gun icon stays lit up. It's a really great way to work. Multiple alarms - got a caution and an X band alarm at once. The Caution stayed huge and the X band radar showed up on the screen. So both were there to see. Highway driving. Well this is a bit strange and will take some getting used to. Those Caution and Photo alarms are all based on GPS coordinates data. When you travel along a highway, sometimes you will pass near one of those areas. Well you have to look closely at the icon for the direction the arrow is pointing. If it's pointing straight up, that zone is probably on the road in front of you. If it's to the side, well it's probably not a highway warning, but a street parallel to the highway. It's tricky to see at first. Oh the GPS speed was off by between 1 and 2 mph. I know this because I've calibrated this vehicle's digital speed display with two Garmin GPS units. The Cobra thinks the speed is really 1 to 2 mph slower than it really is. So bottom line - it's a really good unit, that does exactly what they say it does. It could be much better built. The Passport series from Cincinnati Microwave is much better built - their GPS receiver is built in. However, their displays are all words, no pictures. So Cobra wins there. As Cobra's highest end radar detectors, they did a great job on the things that count; and did a poor job on the visual part. The part that I find amazing, couple this with a Garmin Nuvi GPS; and it will be hard to look at the road. I'll almost need a copilot to help me with all these gadgets! Safe travels. It works - but its a Process to get it going!! So I have been using this Radar Detector for about 5 days now and loving/hating every moment of it. I am not convinced....here are my thoughts. The box includes the detector, a suction cup mount (works well), a piece of velcro for dash mounting, a gps receiver dongle, a usb to mini usb cable (12 inch cable), and of course the power cord. What I like: 1. The unit is designed well and mounts very easily using the suction cup mount (I do not want to permanently attach adhesive backing velcro to my dash). 2. The ability to update the GPS dongle with up to date camera and speed trap information (When the site works) 3. The intuitive (compact) display that gives you basic GPS info (direction and so forth). 4. The voice feedback when an alert is detected. What I dislike: 1. The website was down for-ever and in FireFox shows that it is blacklisted by Google. Internet explorer does not show it blacklisted and works just fine. 2. The updates to the GPS dongle must be on a Windows based PC running a 32bit OS. MAC's are not supported. 3. Horrible support. I tried to call when the site was down to see if they had a solution....no response, no call backs. **NOTE: You download a small software from the website which you install on your pc..once installed you plug the dongle in and you must enter the serial number on the back of it so you can get the update... My experience: I live in the land of State Troopers (New Jersey) and commute to the city that invented the Traffic-Cam (New York City). My total round-trip commute is about 125 miles daily...therefore I spend a lot of time in my car. I have never felt the need for a Radar Detector because I was afraid that it would make me drive a little bit more faster then I do already.. That being said I definitely wanted to give this puppy a shot and see what it detected and what it did not. I finally got the GPS dongle updated with the latest database that had updated information about camera's, speed traps, etc....apparently this is updated every 24 hours (when the site is up and running). Plug in the dongle and turn the unit on and you are ready to go. First test, locally around my home where I know we have 3 live cameras at traffic lights and 2 dummy cameras. I drove my little car near the dummy cameras and no alert...drove past the live cameras and 2 of them showed an alert while the 3rd did not. I made a note of the 3rd one so I could add it to the database (you are allowed to login to the site and add updates for all users .. nice feature). Quick Note: June 25th Evening - Drove home via this camera that I added to the database and voila it actually worked...the device notified me of a camera. Second test, the police department in our area tries to be nice and instead of issuing citations they install these radar's on wheels that notify you of your speed so that you can control yourself (ha...I do live in the boonies). What better way to test a radar detector then to drive by these things...without facing a real officer. :-) - I know of 4 of them on a regular basis. I drove up to two of them...meaning driving towards them and the detector started to signal an alert..probably about 3/4 of a mile before I got there. Awesome. Now then I drove up to two of them from behind....on one I got an alert 1/2 mile before and on the other about 1/4 mile before I got to it. It works.. Third Test - The good ole' NJ highways with state troopers galore - now in unmarked Dodge Chargers. Woo Hoo...this was going to be fun...but I didnt go nuts driving fast...just wanted to see this puppy work. I start off by changing the device to Hwy mode and off I went. I drive on i78 about 45 miles one way each day and there are a lot of speed traps. The rate of detection here was disappointing...about 50% of them never caused a signal...but that could simply mean the trooper wasn't looking for anyone. Still...pretty good. PS. I did turn on all of the available bands on the unit (it covers 15 different ones). Fourth and final test, The city of the cameras! I drove through the Holland Tunnel into NYC ( I had turned the device to City mode before entering the tunnel). Naturally I got a lot of false K Band alerts (to be expected in dense areas with lots of wireless garbage). However here is where this thing came out in full force. It detected EVERY camera at EVERY light and warned me about it.... Gotta love that. I knew about most of the cameras it found but there were 6 that even I missed on my route from the Holland tunnel to midtown NYC. AWESOME. Why then is my rating of this product 4/5 (i would have given it a 3.5 if I could). I simply dis-like the fact that the website is useless and blacklisted to boot. I also am a bit annoyed that I have to use a Windows PC at 32bit to install/update the GPS dongle. I use 64bit operating systems on a regular basis and mac's when I can...so the ability to update on any of them would be awesome...but I cant hate them for not supporting 64bit...a lot of companies don't. My main complaint is that its not MAC friendly. Last but not least...my main concern is that if people don't buy enough of these types of devices, the database will become outdated and thus the GPS dongle will be just that...it will tell you which way you are going but not be able to alert you to traps, troubled areas etc. I still think the product is great but Cobra needs to work on implementation a little bit more. 3.5/5 for me...but since no halves are allowed its rounded up to 4. Cobra XRS 9960G Voice Alert 15 Band Radar/Laser Detector with 1.5-Inch Full Color Display & GPS English-speaking Cobra Radar/Laser Detector is truly one of the best, bar none! While relatively easy to operate and comprehend, this device is recommended for city dwellers and highway travelers alike. After opening the package and viewing the sophisticated electronics, we dreaded having to spend lots of time reading the operation manual; however, this was not the case. After roughly 22 minutes of reading, probing, and mounting the unit on our dashboard, the device was ready to go. Note that the product includes fixtures for optional windshield mounting too, but dashboard operation seemed more agreeable to avoid having the required power cord dangling above. The four buttons are pleasantly minimal with settings for: * City or Highway * Dimness or brightness (via OLED technology = Organic Light Emitting Diode) * Mute * Power on/off with volume control * Menu for further optional programming Mute is a good feature when using this device with a normal GPS system; both sound and image are dually indicated. However, the unit includes an audio jack if one desires to connect to a speaker for sound amplification. Plus, using the Mute control, one may view additional features, such as the vehicle's actual voltage read from the cigarette lighter, which provides a 'low battery' warning; and there is a programmable compass; display of numeric longitude and latitude (via the GPS), and much more. The Global Positioning System addition is brilliant, but we wished it provided directions like ordinary GPS's. This one detects new and existing photo enforcements; caution areas; speed alerts; programmable user location alerts, updatable GPS database information and more. Perhaps in the future, drivers will have all of these features worldwide - including telephone and email capability all-in-one. We did not experience false alerts in our tested urban and suburban area. For example, there were warnings for speed indicator units (warning drivers to be cognizant of their speed); law enforcement vehicles in transit (note that "parked" unattended units generated no alert); regular (non-cargo) trains did not alert; however, regular rails like AM-Trak picked up signals. At the local international airport, the device did not beep constantly, but rather it alerted us correctly when obvious vehicles were nearby. Note that in the city, we had unclear alerts, but realized there are often "unmarked" vehicles that aren't so obvious. With Intellimute technology, the system worked as expected. In fact, Cobra knows if our vehicle is moving slowly or stopped; it detects and displays RPM and may be programmed with Activation Points. The only potential downside is the laser's need for 360 degree view of the vehicle's surroundings. If the laser is obstructed by object(s) or severe foul weather (i.e. dense rain, snow, smoke, or fog), such Acts of God may prevent its operation. Also, the alerts only speak, "K Alert" or "Ka Alert" and few others; therefore, one must read the manual to decipher the alert code. Thus far, Cobra XRS 9960G is fully legal in all 50 states.

Beep Beep... I use Radar Detectors in every vehicle and I have all brands... The most important thing I want to say about this one is... It does NOT have that ever annoying BEEP BEEP that penetrates through your skull that forces you to mute the thing and then you forget it went off and see the source of the detection!! IT HAS A PLEASANT TONE (as pleasant as a tone warning you about a speed trap can be...)!! And it even slowly fades quieter... Oh... I LOVE this detector! I plan on replacing all my others with this model! On a side note.. it is also much moer light weight than others.. so when you hit one of those front-end killing pot holes thatare all over our great nation, it will NOT fall dramatically from you windsheild mount and cause you to swerve throught the highway lane.... Cobra is the BEST I would purchase this Cobra again. I read all the reviews before buying and they were correct - great item. Once I learned the codes (exp: X) then I didn't panic. My hearing is going and like that it alerts me to emergency vehicles. of No Use I've bought the product after reading many reviews and was one of the recommended ones, but it just doesn't work. Calibrating the Compass was an easy thing as if you follow the instructions carefully it will be done in the first go. Mounting on the windshield and taking it off every time when you park in a public garage for safety reasons, it won't just come off the clamp it is provided with, so basically everything you need to remove the whole thing and put it back again is really painful. Now comes the actual part where it should warn the driver of any radars nearby and also when a laser gun is being pointed at you straight from a distance. It failed both the parts! No beeps for any radar even if the trooper's car is on the side of the highway. No beeps even if the laser gun is pointed straight at your car not even from 50meters. All it does is giving unwanted false alarms and that's it. The added feature, where it tells about the approaching emergency vehicle with the transponder on is also of no use and it gives the beep when the vehicle is right next to you.

What's in the Box XRS 9340 Radar Detector Unit, Straight 12V DC Power Cord, Windshield Mounting Bracket with suction cups, Instruction Manual
Save your cash Got this detector at the local Meijer a few months after getting a speeding ticket. I've got a Cobra hand held CB radio which works great, so I figured Cobra detectors must be good. I did my research looking at Cobra detectors and most people seemed to like them. First day out, it caught an undercover Charger running radar down a straightaway at 1/4 mile. For someone who's never had a detector, that was reassuring. Though I would do further research and find that a good radar gun can hit on a straight away a 1 mile kill zone (though they can't ticket you unless they're certain its your car at 1/2 mile). Driving further I managed to pick up a cop around a deep curve at 1/2 - 1/4 mile and sure enough there was one gassing up his unmarked Crown Vic at the gas station with his radar on. Sweet. The eventual return: Two days later I was leaving school early and saw a cop had pulled someone over in the high school driveway. I got in my car and turned on my detector. Nothing. As soon as I started to drive past him my detector went off. An 8 foot warning. Not exactly great. The dash mounted radar was on the whole time, not an instant on. The next day I threw it in my buddy's Explorer to further test. Went through a lot of curves where radar's aren't at their peak performance (perfect for cops). We purposely drove past a radar hiding spot. Sure enough, there's a cop running radar. We caught the fender and light of the car with our eyes before this thing even went off. Even if it was an instant on, there were 3 cars in front of us, more targets for the radar gun to hit and more signal for the detector to pick up. Later that day I went through another city that runs radar a lot. Sure enough, Crown Vic running radar. Couldn't have been more than 200 feet on a straight away. That was the final straw. Took it back to Meijer and got my $80 back. Lesson for you the reader: Save your cash. While Cobra may be the cheapest detector, its the worst brand at radar range. It actually leaks K or Ka (one of them, used by most police departments). It leaks that band so bad it can set off other detectors. If you want to pick up speed signs really quick, this thing has no problem at all. It would shoot up to 9 without a problem (while cop cars only a 1-4). Save your money and buy a Whistler. I've read that a $100 Whistler can easily out beat a $300 Cobra detector. Works well This works well and was delivered as agreed. Only thing I don't like is the silver top reflects in the windshield. Better if it had a black top then no reflection or less. Otherwise nice. Good Detector for a Good Price I have always had detectors and found this one at a very good price. I have had it for a couple of months and it has done it's job four times. The Auto-Mute is a great feature, but I do agree that if you have your radio loud you will need to make sure to monitor your detector. Even the volume's highest setting is not that loud. Overall I am very satisfied with the radar detector.
